THE PRICE OF COMPASSION

CHAPTER 149: THE PRICE OF COMPASSION
With a deep breath, you decide to risk everything. Ignoring the claustrophobic urge to flee down the narrow passageway, you pivot back to the chaotic scene. You claw through the debris, your fingers bloody and raw, until you uncover a hand—frantic, clawing at the air for salvation.

A survivor. Their face is pale, eyes wide with terror, but they're alive. You shout encouragement, voice strained by dust and urgency, as you work together to free them. The Abomination's thrashing grows more intense, prompting a rain of stones from above. Each jarring impact reminds you how close you are to disaster.

You grit your teeth against the noise, the fear, the uncertainty, and finally heave the last rock away. The survivor, a young woman with a haunted look, pulls herself from the rubble. Her gratitude is silent—spoken only through a fleeting embrace, her breath ragged against your shoulder.

The ground trembles ominously, as if the tunnel itself might swallow you whole. The Abomination bellows, its rage shaking the very walls. Time runs dangerously thin. You gesture towards the narrow passage, the only escape route, urging the survivor forward.

Just as you're about to follow, a deafening crack echoes through the chamber. The ceiling shudders, a massive chunk of rock breaking free directly above you.
All Choices That Were Available:
  • 1. Push the survivor ahead and shield them with your body. 😇
  • 2. Shove the survivor aside and dive for cover alone. 😈
  • 3. Grab the nearest loose board and attempt to prop up the ceiling.
  • 4. Assess the situation quickly and decide the safest path forward.
