CHAPTER 172: THE CHASM OF DESPAIR
THE CHASM OF DESPAIR
With the fissure gaping wide between you, the survivor’s desperate gaze locks onto yours. You frantically rummage through your backpack, tossing aside useless scraps until your fingers brush against a coiled length of rope. It's frayed but might just hold. You toss one end across the chasm, praying it reaches. The survivor lunges, fingers barely snagging the rope as the zombies close in.
“Hold tight!” you yell, as you brace yourself, anchoring the rope around a jagged rock. The survivor begins their perilous climb, swinging over the abyss like a pendulum. Zombies, unrelenting and tenacious, swarm the edge, gnashing at the space where they once stood.
Your heart thunders in your chest as the survivor dangles precariously above the void. The sound of the rope straining against their weight is almost unbearable. You peer down at the undead, their numbers increasing by the second, snapping at the air beneath your feet.
Suddenly, the survivor slips, losing their grip. For a heart-stopping moment, they hang by a single hand. The rope creaks ominously, threatening to snap under the pressure. You can see the fear in their eyes, mirrored by your own.
The ground beneath you shudders violently once more. A new rumble grows louder—it's not an earthquake this time but a distant roar, like machinery or... something alive. The sound rises from the canyon depths, growing louder, more menacing, and yet closer.
As the survivor dangles, the roar crescendos, promising a new and terrifying threat. You have seconds to act before disaster strikes.
