CHAPTER 246: PLUNGING INTO THE UNKNOWN
PLUNGING INTO THE UNKNOWN
Without hesitating, you leap into the darkness below, your heart in your throat and your mind blanked by adrenaline. The chill of the cavern air whips past as you fall, the descent feeling both endless and instantaneous. Your body tenses with the anticipation of impact, and thenโsmack! You hit frigid, rushing water, the force knocking the breath from your lungs.
Disoriented, you struggle against the current, fighting to surface as the icy water drags you downstream through tunnels unseen. Darkness engulfs you, only the sound of rushing water filling your ears. Gasping for air, you finally break through the surface, stomach churning with the relentless pull of the stream. The roaring of the mutant above fades with distance, but you're far from safe.
The water hurls you through a narrow chute, and you spot flickering torchlight up ahead, highlighting jagged rocks that threaten to slice you open if you're not careful. You grab onto a jutting rock, hauling yourself from the water, shivering and soaked, only to find yourself in a dimly lit chamber filled with swirling shadows.
As you catch your breath, your eyes adjust, revealing a small band of survivors huddled in the far corner. They eye you warily, their faces a mix of fear and hope, but something is offโone of them clutches a makeshift bomb, his finger twitching near the detonator. The room is deathly silent, tension thick in the air, and you realize you've stumbled into a delicate standoff.
