CHAPTER 316: SACRIFICE IN THE UNDERBRUSH
SACRIFICE IN THE UNDERBRUSH
With your heart pounding, you shove the bandit towards the encroaching zombie, watching as he stumbles forward in shock. The zombie's attention shifts immediately, arms reaching out hungrily toward its new prey. The bandit's scream pierces the air, a desperate sound echoing through the shadows of the forest.
The distraction buys you precious seconds. You scramble to your feet, adrenaline surging as you race through the underbrush. Your feet pound against the forest floor, each step fueled by survival instinct and the haunting sound of the bandit's cries fading behind you.
Branches scratch at your face and arms, but you press on, pushing through the dense foliage. You break through to a small clearing, gasping for breath. The flickering glow of the distant flames casts a haunting light across the scene, creating dancing shadows among the trees.
Then you hear itβa rustling from behind. Your heart skips a beat as you spin around, expecting another horde or worse. Instead, you see a shadow moving rapidly towards you. It's the bandit, somehow still alive, stumbling out from the same underbrush you escaped.
Just as you begin to process his unexpected return, a loud crack echoes through the forest. The ground beneath you begins to give way, the soil shifting and crumbling. A sinkhole opens up, threatening to swallow you both.
